    Blue Christmas

It's been a rough holiday season for Ben so far. He started feeling bad last Sunday and missed the two days of school (Monday and Tuesday) before Christmas break. These are the first days of school he has missed in his entire scholastic career, so he was kind of bummed about this. He also had to miss a sleepover and the neighborhood Christmas party. His fever persisted, so we finally took him to the doctor on Friday. It turns out he has pneumonia! The doctor prescribed antibiotics, which he turned out to have a bad reaction to--so he has spent most of today in bed or in the bathroom. Definitely not a vacation to remember so far!

    Yankee swap

At our office holiday party today, we had a "Yankee swap" gift exchange. I'm typically not a big fan of these games. The gifts tend to be somewhat generic--a scented candle, a red and green oven mitt, etc. However, this year I hit the jackpot. We drew numbers to determine the order selecting gifts and I drew 40--the last number--meaning I had my pick from everything. So I am now the proud owner of a Dwight Shrute (from The Office) bobblehead. I'm quite pleased. I have a small bobblehead collection in my office, and Dwight makes a fine addition!

    Bengals notes...

The Bengals game on Thursday night was INCREDIBLE! The crowd was louder than I have ever heard them, and the team played with an intensity that I haven't seen all year. Even the pouring rain and obviously corrupt referees couldn't dampen our spirits or keep us from victory! By the way, my arrow was a bit off in my previous post--our seats were right at the 50-yard line!

The victory, combined with the Kansas City's unexpected loss to lowly Cleveland, has propelled US into the playoff picture. If the season were to end today, WE would be a wildcard team. Let's hope things continue on their present course. For stats nerds like me who are interested, click the photo below for the tie-breaker system details.
